Lionel Messi ‘outbids Cristiano Ronaldo for world’s most expensive car’ – reports
Okay, so if these outlandish reports are true, the Lionel Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo rivalry really is getting out of hand, if it wasn’t already.
Italian billionaire Alessandro Proto’s luxury car-selling Proto Organisation has reportedly parted with a 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti for around €32 million (£25m) in Paris – and a press release from the Italian company suggests Messi may have been the buyer, with Ronaldo having also been keen to land it.
Sport reported: “the buyer has remained anonymous, but claims suggest it could be Messi”, while adding of Proto “discretion is not his strong point.”
The historic Ferrari was driven in the 1958 Cuban Grand Prix by legendary F1 driver Stirling Moss, and now it could be taken for a ride by another sporting hero.
We are pretty sceptical about the reports, but when it comes to handsomely-paid footballers buying historic cars, nothing is out of the question.
