The All
Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in last Saturday’s re-run election for
Benue South senatorial district, Mr. Daniel Onjeh, Tuesday said the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) wrongly declared former Senate President,
David Mark as winner of the election.
Besides,
he described the call by Senator Mark on him to join him to develop the
Senatorial district as ‘utter hypocrisy’, saying it rather was ill-timed.
Addressing
a press conference in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, Onjeh stated that even
Mark himself knew that he won the election with a land slide majority, and
noted that the election itself ought to have been declared inconclusive due to
what he considered indiscriminate cancellation of votes in most of the APC
strongholds.
“The
election was inconclusive and INEC ought not to have declared him, because in
the purported margin of victory; 12,500 votes is far less than the 29,000
cancelled and rejected votes across the polling units and wards in Benue south
which are majorly from my stronghold areas. So many precedents abound as to
what action should be taken by INEC under such circumstance, for example; Kogi,
Bayelsa and Taraba gubernatorial elections”.
